Version 5.2.0 (EN)

Planned release: 31 October 2026

About this version

This version is all about the changeover of the payment formats: under the original planning of the German Banking Industry Committee, various banks were to stop accepting older SEPA formats and the DTAZV format from mid-November 2026. This discontinuation has since been suspended; a new date has not yet been determined. The format changeover in konfipay will nevertheless take place as scheduled: on 20 October 2026, konfipay's own file creation will be switched, and from version 5.2.0, submitted payment files will also be converted automatically. In addition, payment entry has been extensively optimised and now works considerably faster.

Switch to EBICS 3.0: In some cases, banks may only accept the new formats via EBICS 3.0. We therefore strongly recommend switching your EBICS contacts to EBICS 3.0 where possible before 20 October 2026, and clarifying with your bank whether EBICS 3.0 is enabled for your bank access.

Switching does not affect the initialization status of the EBICS contact: The contact remains initialized even after the switch.

End of the transition period

Both options of the format default are temporarily aligned with an update (see Rolling procedure). This step will be announced in good time.

In future

New format versions

Introduction according to the rolling procedure (see Rolling procedure).

Changeover on 20 October 2026

On 20 October 2026 at 5:00 am (CEST), the setting Format default for file creation will be switched centrally for all clients and for all bank accounts from Common formats to Latest formats. The changeover takes place proactively and automatically – no manual action is required, no update takes place, and nothing changes in how konfipay is used.

  • Payments entered in konfipay and payments taken over via Import payment orders are then generated as pain.001.001.09 and pain.008.001.08 respectively (Austria and Switzerland: the respective country version), with structured or hybrid addresses. The address fields in konfipay are already structured; we recommend maintaining at least town and country for your payment partners.

  • Should a bank unexpectedly reject the new format, first check whether the bank requires EBICS 3.0 for it. Otherwise, the setting can be reset temporarily to Common formats per bank account; we recommend contacting konfipay Customer Service in parallel.

No effect on submitted payment files: Finished payment files submitted via import (Import file, Import and transfer file) or via the API are not affected by the changeover and continue to be transferred unchanged. Their automatic conversion follows with version 5.2.0 on 31 October 2026.

Rolling procedure

The principle: In future, new format versions are introduced without changing the existing file creation. A new version is only used once a bank account is deliberately switched to it.

  1. Transition period: The discontinuation of the previously common formats, originally planned for mid-November 2026, has been suspended. During a transition period of as yet undetermined duration, the option Common formats will continue to generate pain.001.001.03 and pain.008.001.02 respectively. The temporary alignment of both options – both will then generate pain.001.001.09 and pain.008.001.08 respectively – will take place at a later date with an update and will be announced in good time.

  2. With the update that introduces a new format version (e.g. pain.001.001.10), both happen together: the new version is made available under Latest formats, and all bank accounts are set to Common formats. As Common formats continues to produce the established version, file creation remains unchanged – smooth payment transactions are therefore ensured during the introduction as well.

  3. The switch to the new version is made on an opt-in basis: each bank account can be switched to Latest formats as soon as the bank supports the new version.

New

  • Automatic conversion of outdated payment files: Files that are imported or submitted via the API are converted into the current formats before transfer. This is controlled via the action Conversion of outdated payment order files.

pain.001.001.09 (XML foreign payment) – optional, see below

Files in current formats and SEPA containers are transferred unchanged. If the action Conversion of urgent payments into SEPA instant payments is active, urgent payments are converted into SEPA instant payments as before. Files that cannot be converted are rejected with a message before transfer. Conversion initially covers the German formats (DFÜ agreement).

  • Handling of unstructured addresses: A new setting determines whether unstructured addresses in submitted files are not converted (default), converted when required, or always converted into structured or hybrid addresses.

Conversion of unstructured addresses

  • When a conversion takes place: No address is required for SEPA payments within the European Economic Area (EEA). It is required for cross border payments and for payments to countries outside the EEA, e.g. the United Kingdom or Switzerland. Only in those cases – and only if the address is not already available in structured form in the submitted file – is it converted.

  • How the conversion works: An AI developed specifically for this purpose and operated by konfipay itself breaks the unstructured address lines down into their components such as street, house number, postcode, town and country. No data is transmitted to third-party providers or to any place outside konfipay.

  • Limits: Successful parsing cannot be guaranteed for every address, for example in the case of incomplete or ambiguous details. If an address cannot be resolved, the file is rejected with a message naming the payment partner concerned. The most reliable solution remains to enter addresses in structured form already in the upstream system.

  • DTAZV: konfipay continues to accept DTAZV files for as long as the bank accepts them; in payment entry and in the API documentation, a note points out the planned discontinuation of the format. The new setting Convert DTAZV into XML foreign payment, deactivated by default, converts DTAZV files into pain.001.001.09. This requires the bank to have enabled the order type AXZ for the EBICS contact. If details that the XML format strictly requires are missing, the file is rejected.

Improvements

  • Considerably faster payment entry: In internal benchmarks with large data volumes, payment entry opens around ten times as fast, switching the payment type is around six times and saving a payment more than thirty times as fast. The transfer view also loads considerably faster.

  • New payment type selection: The tabs per payment type are replaced by a compact selection showing the number of entered payments per payment type. Up to five payment types can be marked as favourites.
