konfipay help center

Version 5.0.0 (EN) (2)

Planned release: 26 July 2026

About this version

Version 5 is a particularly extensive update with far-reaching changes. The central new feature: for the first time, an additional way to connect to your bank is available alongside EBICS.

Until now, connecting to the bank was only possible via EBICS – including the SRZ procedure, i.e. the connection via a service computing centre (Servicerechenzentrum). EBICS is a standard for communication between banks and business customers. Access requires a corresponding EBICS agreement with the bank – something that many private customers as well as small and micro enterprises are not even offered. These users were previously excluded across the board. With the new connection channel via FinTS/XS2A, konfipay now also reaches exactly these banks and use cases and thus becomes available to a significantly broader range of companies and users.

This is based on fundamental optimisations to konfipay's architecture that we have implemented with this release. They create a robust, future-proof foundation: further connection types can be integrated seamlessly into the existing konfipay concept in the future – with the familiar workflows and without any migration effort on your side. konfipay is thus prepared to incorporate additional connection channels going forward.

New

  • New bank connection via FinTS/XS2A (finAPI)

The new connection is provided via finAPI, a Germany-based open banking provider regulated under PSD2 as a BaFin-licensed payment initiation and account information service. The German location means that your account data is processed in accordance with German and European data protection law. finAPI provides a unified interface to a very large number of European banks and bundles two procedures under one roof:

    • FinTS (formerly HBCI): the established German standard for communicating with the bank's online banking.

    • Access to Account (XS2A): the modern interfaces introduced under PSD2, via which banks grant third-party providers regulated access to account information and payment initiation.

For you this means: konfipay can reach banks both via the established FinTS procedure and via the new XS2A interfaces – without you having to worry about the technical differences.

    • Additional connection channel alongside EBICS: bank connections can now also be set up and operated via FinTS/XS2A through finAPI.

    • Self-service setup: new bank connections are added via a secure web form; the associated bank accounts are then automatically imported into the master data.

    • Balances and transactions: the balances and transactions of the connected accounts are retrieved, stored and displayed in the account information – either manually or automatically in the background.

    • Payment submission: payments can be authorised and submitted via the finAPI Web Form 2.0.

    • Permissions and user assignment: dedicated permissions are available for the FinTS/XS2A functions; users can be assigned to individual bank connections in a targeted manner.

    Further information: FinTS/XS2A

  • Manual payment status change: the status of a payment can now be adjusted directly from the payment overview or the payment details – secured via dedicated permissions and fully documented in the activity log.

  • PayPal transactions as a bank statement: PayPal transactions can be exported as a camt.053 or MT940 file and processed further just like a regular bank statement.

  • SFTP communication logs: for SFTP connections, the communication logs are now presented clearly.

Improvements

  • PayPal connection via REST: new PayPal accounts are now set up via the REST interface by default. Existing SOAP connections remain usable; however, since PayPal has deprecated the SOAP procedure, a note in the dialog recommends switching to REST.

  • Context-sensitive help in key windows and dialogs: central windows and dialogs have been given a collapsible help panel that explains the individual steps and input fields directly in the dialog and, where needed, links to further articles in the help center. The aim is to provide support with additional information exactly where questions typically arise, without having to leave the dialog. The existing assistant for setting up EBICS contacts was revised for this purpose and supplemented with this help; the creation of payment partners and the PayPal setup also include it. Further windows and dialogs are to follow step by step.
